Netflix has found a new global success with Agent Kim Reactivated, a ten-episode South Korean action thriller series that is rapidly climbing the platform’s charts. Arrived in streaming on June 26, the series mixes some of the most loved elements of the genre: a protagonist with a dangerous past, a personal mission, a daughter to save, and violence ready to explode after years of apparent normality.
Based on the South Korean webtoon Manager Kim, the series stars Kim Do-hyeon, played by So Ji-sub. At first glance, the man leads an ordinary life: he is a single father and works in a small bank. Behind this everyday life, however, lies a past as an elite agent. When his daughter is kidnapped, Do-hyeon is forced to recover skills he thot he had left behind.
A story between Taken and John Wick
The comparison with Taken is immediate. Like Bryan Mills, Kim Do-hyeon is also a father willing to do anything to find and protect his daughter. He doesn’t seek confrontation and doesn’t seem to want to return to his old life, but when he is hit in the most vulnerable spot, he doesn’t hesitate to get back into action.
At the same time, Agent Kim Reactivated also evokes the imagery of John Wick. The protagonist is a man who has tried to leave behind a violent life, but is dragged back into the world he had escaped from. Once forced to fight, his enemies quickly realize they have underestimated the wrong man. The series doesn’t necessarily focus on the same type of gunplay as the franchise with Keanu Reeves, but it builds intense and brutal action sequences, especially after building tension in the early episodes. The result is a thriller that combines revenge, crime drama, and emotional urgency, with a lethal protagonist driven by a deeply human goal.

What makes the story even more dynamic is the involvement of other former operatives. Do-hyeon does not face the mission alone, but reunites with some old comrades, also fathers and also ready to turn their experience into a weapon. Together, the three men embark on a desperate mission to save the protagonist’s daughter. The success was rapid. Agent Kim Reactivated is already among the most-watched series globally on Netflix, confirming itself as one of the strongest titles at the moment for action thriller enthusiasts. Even the initial audience reactions seem positive, with many viewers appreciating its pace, intensity, and the construction of the action scenes.
When do the new episodes come out?
Unlike many Netflix productions released in bulk, Agent Kim Reactivated is following a weekly release schedule. The first two episodes arrived on June 26 and 27, while the subsequent ones will be released in pairs every week, with two new episodes in close succession.
