Anya Taylor-Joy is heading back to Netflix with a new series, How to Kill Your Family, which is currently in production in the UK. The actress has plenty going on at the moment, following her work on Apple TV+’s Lucky and with Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three also on the horizon. Now, she’s taking on another dark and rather unusual story for Netflix, the platform where she became a global star with The Queen’s Gambit.
What Is How to Kill Your Family About?
The new series is based on Bella Mackie’s bestselling novel, and the title pretty much tells you that this isn’t going to be a straightforward family drama. It’s a dark comedy-thriller about Grace, a young woman who sets out to get revenge on the wealthy family that abandoned her and her mother. Rather than letting things go, Grace comes up with a calculated plan to make them pay.
Filming is now underway in London, and the first behind-the-scenes pictures show Taylor-Joy playing Grace. In the images, she’s standing outside a Georgian-style townhouse with a cream-and-tan suitcase. The luggage tag reads “AGP to LGW,” referring to a flight from Málaga Airport to London Gatwick. It’s a small detail, but it appears to fit the story’s opening, in which Grace returns to London after a family trip to Marbella ends in tragedy.
Production reportedly began in mid-October 2026 and is expected to continue until mid-February 2027. The team will also film additional scenes in Marbella, Spain. With shooting stretching into next year and post-production still to follow, viewers probably shouldn’t expect the eight-episode series to arrive immediately. A late 2027 or early 2028 release looks possible, although Netflix has yet to announce an official premiere date.
Taylor-Joy isn’t just starring in the show, either. She’s also serving as an executive producer through her production company, LadyKiller, giving her a role behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera. The cast includes Clive Owen as Simon Artemis, Grace’s estranged father. Owen’s involvement adds another familiar name to the project, while Orlando Norman (Wreck) and David Shields (Black Mirror) are also on board. Their characters haven’t been revealed yet, so there’s still plenty we don’t know about the supporting cast.
Emma Moran is directing the series, which brings together revenge, dark humour and the messy business of family relationships. The premise gives Taylor-Joy a very different kind of character to play, too. Grace isn’t simply trying to get away from her past; she’s actively going after the people she believes ruined her life. With How to Kill Your Family, Netflix is bringing another bestselling book to the screen, and Taylor-Joy is once again leading a story with a rather unsettling premise. There’s no release date just yet, but with production now moving ahead, more details about the series should emerge as filming continues.
