HBO’s Harry Potter series is already moving ahead with Season 2, which will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. And a recent comment from Arthur Weasley actor Rafe Spall has fans wondering whether one of the book’s most memorable scenes has already been filmed. Speaking to Deadline, Spall talked about working on the series and had plenty of good things to say about his fellow cast members. He singled out Katherine Parkinson, who plays Molly Weasley, and mentioned filming with her, Kit Harington and Johnny Flynn. That’s an interesting group to bring up together, considering Harington plays Gilderoy Lockhart and Flynn takes on Lucius Malfoy in the new adaptation.
Naturally, fans have started connecting the dots. The four characters all feature in the famous Flourish and Blotts scene in Chamber of Secrets, when Harry and the Weasleys visit the bookshop in Diagon Alley for one of Lockhart’s promotional events. Things get heated between Arthur and Lucius, and the argument eventually turns into a fight. There’s also a small but hugely important moment during the chaos that sets the story’s central mystery in motion. Spall hasn’t confirmed that the cast filmed this particular scene, so there’s no reason to treat it as official just yet. Still, with all four actors apparently working together, the bookshop confrontation seems like a pretty reasonable guess.
Have the Weasleys and Lucius Malfoy Already Filmed the Flourish and Blotts Fight?
The Flourish and Blotts sequence is more than just a memorable argument between two very different wizarding families. It’s one of the moments that sets the events of Chamber of Secrets in motion. In the book, Harry heads to Diagon Alley with the Weasleys and ends up at a book-signing event for Gilderoy Lockhart, the hugely popular wizard who will soon become Hogwarts’ new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Lockhart loves being the center of attention, so the event is very much his kind of thing. Unfortunately, it also brings Arthur Weasley and Lucius Malfoy face to face.
Lucius wastes little time insulting Arthur’s family and making fun of his interest in Muggles. Arthur fires back, and before long, the two men are fighting among the bookshelves. But there’s something else happening while everyone is distracted. Lucius slips Tom Riddle’s diary into Ginny Weasley’s cauldron, setting up the chain of events that eventually leads to the Chamber of Secrets being reopened. It’s a crucial scene, and the casting details make it easy to imagine HBO tackling it during the current production. With Spall, Parkinson, Harington and Flynn all reportedly involved in filming together, the pieces certainly seem to fit. That said, neither HBO nor the actors have confirmed that this is the scene they were working on, and no official photos from the sequence have been released.
Who Else Is Joining Harry Potter Season 2?
Season 2 will bring several important Chamber of Secrets characters into the story. Alongside Spall as Arthur Weasley, Parkinson as Molly and Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, the cast includes Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart, Lenny Rush as Dobby, Billy Barratt as the young Tom Riddle, Molly Hewitt-Richards as Moaning Myrtle and Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey.
Those additions should give the second season plenty to work with. Lockhart brings a very different kind of trouble to Hogwarts, while Dobby and Tom Riddle are central to the mystery surrounding the Chamber. Colin Creevey and Moaning Myrtle also have their own parts to play as Harry starts investigating what’s happening at the school. Filming is continuing in the UK at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Meanwhile, HBO is preparing to launch the first season, which adapts Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The series is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on December 25, 2026, with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
When Will Harry Potter Season 2 Be Released?
HBO hasn’t announced a release date for Season 2 yet. Even so, getting started on Chamber of Secrets while the first season is still on its way suggests the studio doesn’t want to leave too much time between the early instalments. That makes sense, particularly with a young cast playing characters who are supposed to grow up as the story progresses. Keeping production moving could help HBO avoid the problem of its young stars aging too much between seasons, although filming schedules and post-production will still determine when the next chapter is ready.
For now, the possible Flourish and Blotts scene is an intriguing hint rather than a confirmed detail. If HBO has already filmed the confrontation, it means one of the most important moments in Chamber of Secrets is taking shape. But until the studio shares an official update, fans will have to wait a little longer to see how the new series handles Arthur and Lucius’ very public falling-out.
